[VBS] Congregation Service Project:
Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection The 2014 Vacation Bible School theme was “Service”. We would like to reinforce this theme by showing how to serve our friends, family and community by collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Many of us know a child who has spent time in the hospital. Some of us even know someone who has stayed at the Ronald McDonald House.
What easier way is there to help such a wonderful organization! |
Recycle Your Pop Tabs
Containers are available for you to take home and start your own collection. Grab an extra for a friend. Set one in the break room where you work. Take a few down to your local ball diamond where concessions are sold. What other ideas do you have?
Please bring back the containers to our church when filled and dump the tabs into the Ronald McDonald House collection receptacle currently located in the Narthex.
SPECIAL THANKS to Lee Oestrich for the fine craftsmanship of the collection receptacle!

Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling while raising funds to help children and their families at the same time. Since 2000, little aluminum tabs on the tops of soda cans have meant nearly $185,000 to the Ronald McDonald House. Revenue from recycling these little bits of aluminum helps provide a home away from home for families whose seriously ill children are undergoing treatment in the Milwaukee area. Saving pop tabs is easy and clean. They’re compact, with a concentration of recyclable aluminum. Unlike empty cans, they don’t need to be rinsed. |
Where do the pop tabs go? The Sacotte’s have a special place in their hearts for the Ronald McDonald House. Annie (Unferth) Sacotte, stayed there after their twin girls, Marley and Finley, were born premature at Children’s Hospital. The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, safe place for mothers, fathers and children. Some days they have a waiting list of up to twenty families that they must turn away because of space limitations. They are currently undergoing an expansion that will provide 32 new family stay rooms and needed renovations to accommodate more families. Annually in September the Sacotte family bring the pop tabs they have gathered to a collection center when they travel to downtown Milwaukee to participate in the Al's Run/Walk for Children's Hospital. We are excited to share our pop tab collection with the Sacotte family and thank them for opening their heart to help others. |

About The Ronald McDonald House
It’s something they see every day – children healing because they’re surrounded by their families. And while RMHC may not be able to make the medicine taste better or erase the pain of a much-needed treatment, they can help lessen the burden for more than seven million families each and every year. Helping a sick child fight their illness takes a big enough emotional toll on a family. Adding a financial strain can make it all almost too much to bear. RMHC can help address those problems, whether they involve housing that’s near a hospitalized child, the expense of staying together in another city, or even getting basic medical and dental care in a vulnerable community. These programs can be found in more than 290 local Chapters in 58 countries and regions:
Since 1974, RMHC has helped address these needs every day, with nearly 144,000 volunteers and staff members, their connections with medical communities around the world, partnerships with respected companies and generous donors. They couldn't do it without all of you.
